Sheikh Mohammed reveals 12 actions planned for Dubai in 2020

The letter, directed to residents and visitors of Dubai, included 12 principles based on the Rulers observations and consultations.
Points included setting up ‘Dubai Council’, which will be chaired by HH Sheikh Mohammed himself, as well as H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Crown Prince of Dubai and H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.
Dubai Council’s aim will be to ensure Dubai becomes one of the best cities in the world in terms of global competitiveness, economic leadership and attractiveness. It will be up to the Dubai Council to map out a vision for the emirate’s next 50 years to ensure ‘the best quality of life for citizens, residents and visitors of Dubai.’
The Dubai Council will also ‘oversee the launch of major projects in the emirate, work on introducing new development sectors and foresee future global opportunities.’ Meetings will be conducted once a month and the agenda will include the launch of a “major project” in the Emirate.
In the letter, Sheikh Mohammed spoke of six growth pillars which will be overlooked by six officials in Dubai. They include the Dubai economy, citizen services, government development, infrastructure, security and justice, and health and knowledge.
The six officials will be in charge of monitoring the progress as well as following up on objectives of the government entities and departments in these sectors. Advisory boards will be set up for each pillar presenting ideas and suggestions but also reporting observations to the council.
The Ruler of Dubai also stated that agreements for every department will be reviewed every two years, and he added that ‘those who fail to bring about real change within two years shall be relieved of their duties.’
Concluding his letter, HH Sheikh Mohammed stated that ‘the ultimate goal of the new system in Dubai is to create new transformations, overcome emerging challenges, rejuvenate ideas and ensure a better future for our current and next generations for whom we strive to leave the world’s most liveable city.’

20 Tips Before Traveling Internationally

Security & Health

Check-in with your doctor and insurance carrier. Double check and make sure that you have all of the proper vaccinations and that you have renewed all essential prescriptions. Also, ask you medical insurance provider if your policy applies overseas for emergencies. If it doesn’t, and you want to add extra coverage, consider supplemental insurance.

Bring copies of your passport

If your passport gets stolen or lost you want to be sure that you can still get back into the country, or be able to prove your citizenship.

Leave a copy of your passport

For extra backup, leave a copy of your passport at home or with someone you trust. Consider making an electronic copy you can store in your email account as well.

Register with your embassy

If there’s a problem in the country, this will make it easier for your government to contact you and get you to safety.

Money

Look up the monetary conversion before you go. Finding out that one Danish Krone is equal to just 19 cents … bad surprise. Make sure you do your math before you travel to get a sense of where the conversion rate is at.

Make sure your credit card

Will work in the country you’re visiting. European banks have switched almost completely to the more secure chip-and-PIN technology, and fewer businesses abroad are accepting the outdated magnetic-strip cards.

Go to a bank or ATM in the country you’re visiting

The conversion centers in the airport or around the city tend to be huge rip-offs. You won’t get charged as many fees at the ATM or the bank, and the conversion will be exact.

Always have local cash

Not every place takes credit cards. Especially important places like trains or buses.

Call your bank or credit card provider

Sometimes banks think that fraud may be occurring if transactions are suddenly happening in Bali when you’re from Jersey, and they will turn off your card as a security measure.

Check the country’s entrance/exit fees

Some countries require travelers to pay in order to enter or leave the country. These fees are not included in the price of your airline ticket, and can range from $25 to $200.

Breakfast at Saba’a Restaurant in Al Seef Heritage Hotel Dubai

During our staycation at Al Seef Heritage Hotel, we spent our breakfast at the hotel’s main and only restaurant, Saba’a. This restaurant offers authentic, oriental cuisine and celebrates the traditional flavours of the region. Also Read: Our Visit to the Museum of Illusions in Al Seef DubaiSaba’a translates to seven in Arabic, and this restaurant is open 7 days a week and serves breakfast and dinner. The team behind it specializes in preparing home-cooked meals.
Getting to the hotel means walking past alleys and pathways. There are signs that point to Saba’a which are helpful, but still we got a little lost looking for the restaurant. Only when a few staff from the nearby shops pointed us to the elevator did we find the restaurant via sign above the elevator.
I was pleasantly surprised with the ambiance of Saba’a. Much like the hotel, the restaurant keeps up with the traditional Arabic heritage in its ambiance and design. From the serving plates to the cups and cutlery to the tables and the chairs to the lamps and ceiling fans, the traditional and casual atmosphere made for an inviting and relaxed dining experience.

Breakfast Buffet

The buffet mostly has Arabic food with a international items. The dishes in the main buffet stations include boiled eggs, chicken sausage, baked beans, fried rice, roasted potato, salads and cold mezzes, and bread and pastry station.
They also have fresh juices, cereals, coffee and tea, ful medame station, fresh fruits and a few Arabic sweets.
I would like to see some more food like some more hot mezzes offered though.

Dubai’s Level 43 the Four Points By Sheraton!

Firstly I would like to apologise for the slow content but we are working on a lot of exciting things for you guys! Let’s start with a short review of Level 43 @FourPointsBySheration
This is one of the outstanding views from the Sky Lounge rooftop bar @FourPointsbySheraton on Sheikh Zayed Road! We popped by on the weekend and had to share it with you!!
As soon as you walk out the lift into the corridor there is a mysterious, fun and relaxed vibe. The theme colour (Purple) is prominent throughout and this creates a great atmosphere through the lounge and outside bar. As we walked to the bar we were greeted by friendly staff and seated outside. The view on all corners was stunning, and we loved the view of the Burj Khalifa, but it didn’t look so big from where we were sitting! (The art of physics eh?)- The further a building, the smaller it looks!
Level 43 at night
The seating arrangement inside and outside is perfect for a quick drink before heading somewhere to dance the night away, or those relaxed evenings with a group of friends! They even have two seater tables for those more intimate nights, with a view!
The ambiance and music genre is varied and has obviously had some thought put it into it! The place filled up quite quick, and we were there around 10.30pm… groups, couples, young and old… the crowd added to the whole ambiance! The friendly staff were very accommodating and conversational, in terms of having that little natter when ordering and suggesting, they were very welcoming!
So if you are looking for a place this weekend, whether it’s just a nice intimate drink, or a friends catch up session or even having a few drinks before you head out dancing, this sky lounge bar is the place to be! They also have themed nights like ladies night on Tuesday and happy Mondays!

Levant Brunch At Boulevard Kitchen Manzil Downtown Review!

Friday is the first day of the weekend here in the UAE and if you have been here long enough or know the happenings, you will know that after Friday prayers, most hotels and restaurants host Brunches! Whilst we have reviewed a brunch in Abu Dhabi before, this was our first invite in Dubai and it was a great place to start! We were approached by the Manzil Downtown to review Levant Brunch At Boulevard Kitchen Manzil Downtown, because we often like to take our little tots on our reviews and they picked up on that! However, just as we clarified with them, none of the children on our blog are our own I’m afraid, they are nephews and nieces and younger cousins. Both Kj and I adore children, but we just got married a few months ago, so children aren’t on the agenda for a while, our tots are enough for now! For this particular review we took two of our nephews form my side of the family, Daniyaal and Feeyaz!

Location

The Manzil hotel downtown is in the heart of one of many projects Dubai has shot up to celebrate its Arabian hospitality and culture. It is a step away from the largest mall in the world; Dubai mall, which hosts the iconic Dubai dancing fountains, Kidzania, Reel cinemas and much more in the line of retail, food, snd entertainment. Downtown Dubai itself has everything you need from boutique restaurants and shopping experiences to bikes you can rent (Just outside the Manzil hotel) for the cooler evenings or days! It is just a short walk fro the Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world) and just 20 minutes away from the airport too! It was easy to find and whilst we didn’t take the metro, the Burj Khalifa metro station wasn’t far, and the tram trolley runs through just down the road too!

The food!

From Gazpacho to Tabouleh and Fattoush, pickled  veg, and other Spanish salad starters to the warm Arabic, and Moroccan bread, to the hot chicken shawarma, Lamb Ouzi (A wonderful whole lamb and oriental Middle Eastern dish), the rolls and international salads and indian curries, the rack of lamb and beef steak, and choices of soup, we tried a bit of everything between us!
However, the pulling and invitation point for us was that it is a family brunch, and other family brunches or restaurants we have been to have tables for children. One thing we noticed is that (Especially Feeyaz who is 6) the children struggled to see some of the dishes and what they were. Everything was so high up! Whilst they did have a childrens’ menu and pasta and such things were also available to order for the adult of the menu, it would have been better if they put the childrens’ menu items on a table in the childrens’ corner or somewhere accessible for them. I had to lift Feeyaz on occasion so he could see the dishes. Some of you may just place things on a plate and children are to eat what they are given, however I think a brunch that advertise family friendly and has provision and space for a childrens’ corner should cater for families like our own where children do like to see what they put in their plate. Although the boys loved the food, it would have been nice for them to have the freedom to choose a bit more openly. We especially loved the fresh prawns, the shawarma, gazpacho and the wonderful away of desserts.

WATCH: BURJ KHALIFA LIGHTS UP IN SUPPORT OF AUSTRALIA

The UAE’s Burj Khalifa lit up in a towering display of national support for Australia following the recent bushfires that have devastated the country.
The massive display on the world’s tallest building read #MatesHelpMates, the hashtag used to show the Emirate’s outpouring of solidarity.
The three-minute display on the tower also called for donations to the UAE’s fundraising campaign for Australia in cooperation with the Emirates Red Crescent.
Commenting on the campaign, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, said: “The UAE community continues to identify ways to demonstrate that our country stands with Australia and seeks to support its people in any way possible. It is our sincere hope that the #MatesHelpMates campaign raises awareness of the situation in Australia and mobilizes members of the public to donate generously.”
In addition to the Burj Khalifa display, organisers distributed stickers and pins bearing the #MatesHelpMates hashtag and depicting a koala above the UAE and Australian national flags.
A moving video of support from Expo 2020 Dubai was also produced to publicise Australia’s plight and bolster support.
Similar projects backed by government entities and national carrier Emirates Airline and Etihad Airways have further contributed to the UAE’s efforts to encourage the public to donate to the disaster relief campaign.
